School
We have existed since 1991. We were formed by the authority of regulation
No. 12/91 of Local Education Authorities in Elblag. We functioned as General
Secondary School No. 2, but on 1st September 2002 by virtue of District
Council our school changed its name to Complex of Secondary Schools No. 2 in
Malbork.
Today our school consists of:
1.General Secondary School No. 2 - of three years
2.Art Secondary School - of four years
Our school is open to the disabled students who find here support and help
within the framework of individual teaching. All the classes are conducted
by a qualified group of teachers.
We are a unit which can be proud of a broad didactic activity. It is not
only about preparing students to competitions, but also about various
didactic experiments. Before the school reform the second-year students
could study the subjects according to their interests and specialisation
they had chosen. The first-year students had the basic specialisation which
means that they all learnt the same subjects. Since our school was formed we
have been carrying out a pedagogical experiment which consists in the animal
breeding. The aim of this experiment is to arouse ecological awarness among
the students. We also want to pay students' attention to the needs of living
organisms and the fact that people are responsible for them. Within the
framework of this experiment we have located various aquariums and
terrariums in the classrooms and corridors. Students are responsible for the
cleaning works and with the help of the biology teacher they also look after
the animals. We also cooperate with a vet who examines the animals regularly.
We base our breeding mainly on exotic animals ( because it is easy to look
after them and there aren't any legal regulations that would forbid us to
keep the animals). However, very often our school becomes a home to
abandoned and unwanted animals. Our school zoo is so popular in our region
that students from kindergartens, primary and secondary schools often visit
us. Currently you can find in our zoo such animals as: hamsters, rats,
guinea-pigs, rabbits, a parrot, tortoises, snakes ( boa constrictor, two
pythons), an iguane, many different species of aquarium fish, and a cayman,
which is on a world list of endangered species.
We expanded our breeding when we moved the school to a new building. We
formed a conservatory where animals can live in their natural habitat of
exotic plants. The research carried at our school a few years ago showed us
that the presence of animals at schools has got a positive influence on
young people. Thanks to our zoo students understand the needs of animals and
feel responsible for the environment. At our school we take care of
student's health and fitness. We organise a lot of extra sports classes
where students can use up their energy. Because of that they succeed in many
different sports competitions. We have our own sports club, called "Falcon",
where students can play unihoc, table tennis and do athletics. During eight
years our school has been represented in Championships of Poland by 16
students. In 1998 our school opened a multifunctional sports hall where
students can do athletics. It is a leading sport discipline in our club.
Apart from that our students have recently succeeded in Rowing Boats
Championships.
In 1996 we started to renovate a new school building which is located in old
Military Barracks. What is more, in April 1998 we opened a new sports hall (which
is one of the most modern in our region).
After ten years we finally moved the school from the old building to the new
one. Because of that we organised a big celebration in our sports hall.
Edmund Wittbrodt, the past Minister of Education, was our guest of honour.
There were many people in the sports hall during this event, for example we
were visited by delegation groups from our partnership schools in Vilnius,
Solversborg, and Nordhorn.
Since 1st October 2008 at our school has functioned a branch of Collegium
Balticum University where students can continue their education.
